Plan now to kick off Pride Week on Sunday, June 29, 2008 from 5:00 until 9:00 p.m. Event Chair Chuck Perry and his committee promise not-to-be-missed evening. Mark your calendar to join your friends as we raise awareness of the plight of homeless gay and lesbian youth, and raise the funds needed to provide them with a home.

The Rainbow Program was launched in 2000 to serve Atlanta’s homeless and runaway lesbian and gay youth. Since that time, over 250 LGBTQ youth have left the streets for a safe environment where they are helped to heal the pain and trauma that comes with rejection, and to prepare for a successful independent adulthood. There is no state or federal support for this life-saving program – donations from individuals and companies keep the Rainbow Program operating and able to serve youth at a time of tremendous need. An estimated 100 LGBTQ youth are homeless each night in Atlanta because of whom and how they love. .

The CHRIS Kids Rainbow Program is a safe haven for homeless and, runaway gay and lesbian youth who have left their homes due to their sexual orientation. Since opening in 2000, over 200 youths have been served. In addition to providing much needed shelter, Rainbow services include educational assessment and GED placement, life skills coaching, job placement and training, counseling and guidance. Residents transition from a dangerous life on the street to a life of confidence, success, and independence.

Our youth in the CHRIS Kids Rainbow program need your support! The ongoing success of the Rainbow program will depend entirely on the level of community investment in our kids’ future.
