What is CHRIS Kids?

CHRIS Kids is a 501c3 Georgia nonprofit organization founded in 1981. Tax Identification Number 58-1430183.

Why is “CHRIS” always in capital letters?

CHRIS is an acronym for our values Creativity, Honor, Respect, Integrity and Safety.

Who do you serve?

CK serves youth ages 6-17 that are in foster care and have emotional/behavioral challenges stemming from trauma. We work with 18-24 year olds who are “aging-out” of the foster care system, homeless youth and young parents. We also provide supportive services to families (including adults) through many different community programs in order to help strengthen them. We serve about 1,500 individuals each year.

Do you work with adults?

Yes, CK works with adults and families. The CHRIS Counseling Center is one of Georgia’s few “adult core providers.”

How many full-time staff members do you have?

We maintain between 150-160 full-time staff. All residential programs are monitored 24 hours per day, 7 days per week and 365 days per year. Employees have various educational backgrounds and life experiences. We have nurses, therapists, counselors, psychiatrists, and other specialized and trained individuals.

Where are you located?

CK has a total of ten physical locations throughout metro –Atlanta. There are eight group homes located in five metro Atlanta counties (DeKalb, Fulton, Clayton, Gwinnett, and Douglas).  The Summit Trail Apartment Community, CHRIS Counseling & Education Center and Main Headquarters are located in East Atlanta. Community services are coordinated and provided to children, youth and families statewide.

Do you provide services in a child’s home or school?

Yes, community support and intensive family services are provided at a child’s/family’s home or in their school setting.

Where does revenue and funding come from?

CK has a diverse portfolio of local, state and federal government contracts, service revenue and charitable revenue from corporations, foundations, individuals and United Way. Each year, CK relies on the community for charitable donations totaling near $2,000,000. The annual budget is approximately $9,000,000.
