Summit Trail Apartment Community

In partnership with the Atlanta Housing Authority, Depart-ment of Community Affairs and the US Dept. of Housing and Urban Development, CHRIS Kids provides young adults ages 17-24 who are homeless, parenting, leaving foster care, juvenile justice and/or mental health systems with super-vised apartment living. Summit Trail is a community development project of the City of Atlanta funded by a grant from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development through the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974, as amended.

Summit Trail is a 5-building, 41-unit, permanent supportive housing community with 1-, 2-, and 4-bedroom apartments. There is an on-site laundry room, lounge area, community kitchen, exercise facility and a computer resource nook. All individual apartment units contain a fully equipped kitchen including an electric stove, refrigerator, dishwasher, table, chairs, dishes, utensils, broom and cleaning supplies. Each apartment is also fully furnished with a bed, dresser, night stand, sofa, coffee table, lamps, artwork, chair, vacuum and linens.

EarthCraft Certification

Summit Trail achieves the Department of Energy’s Builders Challenge Multi-Family, ENERGY STAR, and EarthCraft Multi-Family certifications.  It is the first multifamily design in the United States to meet the Builders Challenge standards. The goal is to be 30% more energy-efficient.

The name, Summit Trail, represents the expedition to the Summit is fraught with challenges, many ups/downs and sometimes danger. It takes persistence and commitment to reach the Summit and once reached, there is a great sense of accomplishment. Confidence builds and the future enhances. The expedition to the Summit represents the challenges facing our young adults. It represents the journey they (and we all) must travel through life.
